The close interactions and guidance received from the amazing Ophthalmologists, have not only been inspirational but have also helped us steadily grow to become a fully CE and ISO certified company, comprising of a team of 100 strong members and dealer presence in most of the states of our beautiful country.

History of OMS:

We started out with a five member team that performed the key manufacturing steps of Ophthalmic knives for a US based company. This gave us direct access to the new developments taking place the ophthalmic industry and in the surgical techniques. Back in those days the western world was the hub for design and development of new ophthalmic surgical knives. Not having the quick communication channels of today meant a massive delay in India getting access to latest ophthalmic surgical knives and surgery techniques. There were no indigenous manufacturers of Ophthalmic knives in India at that time.

Our founding fathers late Mr. L. N. Lalwani and the present chairman Mr. G. H. Patel took it upon themselves to bridge this gap. We (Nightingale Healthcare Products Pvt. Ltd.) became the first manufacturer of Ophthalmic microsurgical knives in India in 1988. Early 1990s saw major new developments in the cataract surgery techniques. This inspired our founding fathers and gave them the vision to manufacture ophthalmic microsurgical knives in a more organized way and on a larger scale. A separate partnership Sharpedge Industries was formed to cater exclusively for the Indian market.

Having the direct access to the ophthalmic knife designs being used in the western countries, we started manufacturing our range of specialized Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) knives in the early 1990s. It was only in the late 1990s that the MSICS started gaining popularity in India. This meant we were ready with the knives for MSICS surgery well before the technique first came to India. We feel proud to have done our little bit in promoting the uptake of the MSICS technique in India. This helped us in establishing and popularizing our Sharpedge brand.

Our vision was very clear, manufacture the latest high quality ophthalmic knives for ophthalmologists in India at value for money price. Our aim was not to cream the market but to make the products available to the masses. In keeping with our aim we chose not to exploit our monopolistic position. Till this day, our highly sought after Sharpedge knives are considered one of the best value for money knives in the market. Our close interactions with the ophthalmologists and the continuous development of new knives have resulted in us possessing the largest range of Ophthalmic knives in the world.

In the early 2000s, we broadened our long term vision to cater to all the needs of cataract surgeons. We formed a new company with the name of Ophthalmic Marketing and Services (OMS). OMS started off by becoming the sole distributor of Sharpedge knives in India. Keeping the convenience of our customers in mind and the soon to be extended product range, Sharpedge was amalgamated in to OMS. Over the years we have progressively added accessories , cannulas, instruments , drapes and IOLs to our product range. The latest addition to our product range our IOLs, are produced in our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Since the launch in 2014 our IOLs have been very well accepted and they have been implanted in lakhs of patients and continue to perform exceedingly well for them.

We have been privileged to have a long and close association with many wonderful charity organizations and hospitals performing charity cataract operations. Witnessing their amazing work firsthand continues to be a constant source of motivation for us. We are passionate and proud to be contributing to the noble cause of addressing the problem of cataracts (the main cause of blindness) for the underprivileged.

LATE MR. LALWANI

Late Mr. Lakhamichand Lalwani (former Chairman and Managing Director of OMS) was the founding father of OMS. An electronics engineer by qualification, he attained his Master’s degree from the US. He had 15 years of previous cross industry engineering work experience before he began his endeavours into the ophthalmic manufacturing industry. He was involved in the ophthalmic manufacturing industry for over three decades. He was a well-recognised, trusted and respected personality in the Indian Ophthalmic industry. His exemplary leadership, people skills, customer service skills, ethical business practices, clear foresight and the passion for working towards the greater good of the society has not only shaped OMS into what it is today but also continues to show us the way forward in his physical absence.

Chairman

Mr.Gunvant is the Chairman of OMS. He is a Mechanical Engineer by qualification. He has been with the company since its inception in the late 1980’s. He had 10 years previous production management work experience. His primary area of expertise has been setting up and managing the smooth production of medical devices at OMS. His people management skills, thorough approach, eye for ways to improve efficiency and firm focus on quality assurance practices have immensely contributed to the growth of OMS over the years.

Managing Director

Mr.Premat is the Managing Director of OMS. He is an Instrumentation Engineer by qualification. He has been with the company since 1998. Over the years he has overseen the marketing endeavours of OMS. He is also keenly involved in managing the ISO and CE regulatory requirements of the company. He has represented the company in countless trade shows and hence his is a very familiar face for customers.

Chief Business Officer

Mr.Harshad is the Chief Business Officer at OMS. A Software Engineer by qualification, he attained his Master’s degree from Australia. He has been with the company since 2016. Prior to joining OMS, he had work experience of 15 years. His major work experiences included marketing and production planning role for a manufacturing industry, education industry experience and senior analyst programmer role in software development. Having studied, lived and worked in Australia for almost 10 years, he brings in a valuable cross industry and cross culture experience to OMS.

Business Coordination Officer

Mr.Varun is the Business Coordination Officer at OMS. He holds multiple MBA degrees, both from India and USA. He has been with the company since 2016. Prior to joining OMS, he had work experience of 10 years comprising extensive experience of business development for the pharmaceutical industry.

Domestic Marketing Head

 

Mr.Jayesh is the Domestic Marketing Head at OMS. He has a Master’s degree in commerce. He has been with the company since 1988. Over the years he has made major contributions toward the implementation of the marketing efforts of OMS products. He has also been contributing to the purchase, HR and blades production management at OMS. Owing to his constant presence at several trade shows for OMS, he is well recognized by our customers.

Chief Financial Officer

 

Mr.Robin is the Chief Financial Officer at OMS. He has a Master’s degree in commerce and he also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration with a specialization in Finance. He has been with the company since 2005. Prior to joining OMS, he had work experience of 10 years. His major work experiences included Senior Accountant and Executive Accounts manager roles. At OMS he oversees the finance and accounting departments and has contributed vastly to ensure the smooth financial and accounting performance of the company over the years.

Chief Operating Officer (IOLs)

Mr.Praveen is the Chief Operating Officer (IOLs) at OMS. He has Master’s degree in Business Management with specialization in Marketing and Operational Management. He has been with the company since 2012. Prior to joining OMS, he had work experience of 10 years. His major work experiences included relationship manager role, senior development and operational head roles. At OMS he is responsible for managing the production of IOLs, the sales and post sales activities for IOLs and he is the responsible person for regulatory compliance for IOLs.

QA Officer

Mr.Mehul is the QA officer at OMS. He holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. He has been with the company since 1998. Prior to joining OMS, he had work experience of 6 years. His major work experience included the role of production manager where he managed the Quality control, production and maintenance departments. At OMS he manages the quality assurance department and also monitors the grass roots level conformance of the ISO and CE regulatory requirements.
